The Hound of the Baskervilles may not have a canine main character in the same way Call of the Wild did, but it does have a definite dog theme to it and that means another excuse to try and refine the automatic Doge translator. The book’s relatively straightforward sentence structure might even help us get better results than before.
Let’s start with this dramatic line in which Sherlock Holmes is interviewing a person of interest to the case:
Original
My life has been one incessant persecution from a husband whom I abhor
Processed
such life
so be
amaze
Last time we spent our efforts on trying to get the Doge translator to focus on only the most important parts of each sentence rather than just copy pasting every single noun, verb and adjective into the output. But from this example it seems pretty obvious that we need to make it a little bit smarter about recognizing when the core of a sentence isn’t enough to really define the essence of an utterance.
The failing here is that my previous attempt to improve the Doge translator focused on the idea of sentences with a simple SUBJECT VERB (OPTIONAL DIRECT OBJECT) format. But what we see here is the equally popular SUBJECT IS (SOMETHING) pattern.
So let’s make the tool smart enough to recognize the verb “be” and run a different set of logic when it occurs.
Original
My life has been one incessant persecution from a husband whom I abhor
Processed
so life
such persecution
excite
Much better. And the older logic still works as before:
Original
The cabman had described a somewhat shorter man, but such an impression might easily have been erroneous.
Processed
so cabman
much describe
very man
wow
